Statement of work template (one page)

A statement of work only works if the client reads it. Keep it to one page. Six blocks. Send it before you start.

What to include

  1. Client and title. Who it is for and the project name.
  2. The problem. Three or four sentences on what is broken. Not a company history.
  3. Deliverables. Numbered lines the client can tick. Each line is something you can hand over.
  4. Timeline. When it starts, how many review rounds, when it ends.
  5. Investment. Total price and when each part is due (for example 50% to start).
  6. Out of scope. The work that looks adjacent but is not included. This is what stops silent extra weeks.

What this is not

A one-page SOW is a working scope, not a signed contract and not legal advice. If you need something binding, have a lawyer review it.
